Faux Fawn, the band built around the wholly original music of singer/songwriter Paul Otteson, is busiest during the summer. Mainly on account of both Paul and drummer Luke Bassuener teaching grade school during the other nine months of the year. Summer allows more time for the pursuit of musical endeavors, and, due to the often random nature of gigging opportunities, some weeks are busier than others.
Take this one. Busy enough that Mr. McMusic proclaims it “Faux Week.”
Tuesday took the band to Appleton to participate in a showcase event that previewed the upcoming Mile-of-Music event (a virtual tsunami of exciting live music—check it out!) The evocative Stephanie Tschech of acoustic duo Auralai opened the show, and powerhouse Milwaukee folk singer Hayward Williams followed, setting up Faux Fawn for a final set in front of a gracious and appreciative audience at Appleton’s Outer Edge.
On Friday, July 29, Faux Fawn will set up alongside assorted farm animals and amusements at the Rock County 4H Fair in Janesville for a 2 to 4 pm show.
On Saturday, July 30, the band meets at the Brady Street Festival in Milwaukee to participate in this long-running tradition—3 pm at the Humboldt Center Stage.
Okay, it’s a different week, by worth mentioning that on Monday, August 1, Faux Fawn sets up for a 6 to 8 performance in the courtyard at Julep, one of the exciting new eateries in the burgeoning East Wash corridor.
Though a previous engagement keeps Tom in Madison, the rest of Faux Fawn will be performing in Appleton on Friday, August 5 at the aforementioned Mile-of-Music.
On Sunday, August 7, “The Fawn” cavorts again, this time for a company picnic in bucolic Belleville, Wisconsin. If you keep the right company, we’ll see you there.
Tom will be part of a reunion band entertaining at Crazy Lenny’s E-Bikes Customer Appreciation celebration on the afternoon of Sunday, July 31.
Farther on down the road, on Friday, August 12, harmonica-man Frankie Lee leads a laid-back trio version of The Maintainers that includes Tom and guitarslinger extraordinaire Mel Ford through several sets out on the patio at TyranenaBrewing (from 6 to 9).
