Just the Music, Ma'am

The weather? Politics? You won't hear it here, Cupcake!1

Nope! We’re ALL about and ONLY about (usually) predicting the McMusical future. And to that end, Mr. McMagic Eightball sez...

Central Wisconsinites take note!

On Wednesday, February 1, Big Wes bassist Tom McCarty travels northward to join Jimmy Voegeli and Perry Weber (amazing members of The Jimmys) for Wednesdays with Wags (that’s drummer Tony Wagner) at The Wheelhouse in Waupaca. Come for the food, stay for the beer! (Central Waters on tap!) Also, rockin’ Blues music.

On Friday, February 3, Big Wes drummer Rick Becker batters his way into the hearts and minds of the hometown crowd at the Mazomanie Music Conservancy’s monthly first Friday concert.

Then, on Friday, February 10, Big Wes Turner’s Trio (featuring the one and only Billy Flynn) will be tearing it up at The Knuckledown Saloon, Madison’s premiere Blues (and Blues dancing) venue. It’s an early evening (downbeat at 8pm) and dancing is encouraged.2

On Sunday, February 12, Tom signs up with Chuck Bayuk and The Drunken Sailors band to raise funds at The Harmony Bar and Grill. Parrot-heads on hand, no doubt. Warm up for Mardis Gras and support a good cause, ‘cause you know you should.

1 In our previous post, we DID make passing mention to the “arctic blasts” of January. Well, that business was quickly followed by a spring-like thaw. Bye bye snow cover. Thanks a lot filthy rich fossil fuel industry sheiks and barons and all the climate denying politicians bought and paid for by them! I want my winters back!

2 Correction: For those who may have spotted it in the Maximum Ink club listings, Big Wes Turner’s Trio plays at The Knuckledown Saloon on February 10, NOT January 27. Somebody’s hand slipped on the keyboard. Also, the dog ate our homework.

Holy New Year, Mister McMusic!

Okay, besides another calendar year, What’s new?

Just this!

Tom McCarty, big bass escort and blues hollerer, holder of a de facto endorsement from legendary purveyor of mid-Twentieth Century American popular music “Big Wes Turner,” will be part of a Birddog Blues Band incarnation to include Ken “Birddog” Olufs (on harmonica), Warren Beck (on piano), Mel Ford (on guitar!), and Derek Hendrickson (on drums). It happens at Tofflers in nearby New Glarus on Thursday, Jan 12. Downbeat at 7pm!

As previously propounded in these pages, Big Wes Turner’s Trio will, or will not, return to their regular residency of odd Essen Haus Thursdays at some time in the future. Meanwhile, between hunkering down under the artic blasts of January in Wisconsin, and scrounging around for those elusive sweet gigs, the terrible threesome sends warm wishes to all who attended the EH finale show on December 29, 2016. Fun was had. Check the above linked FB page to stay informed.

Looking ahead to February (Wednesday, first of..to be precise), Tom joins Jimmy Voegeli and Perry Weber (of The Jimmys) for Wednesdays with Wags (that’s drummer Tony Wagner) at TheWheelhouse in Waupaca. Hell, we’ll be halfway through winter by then.
