Three musicians who can power-trio in the best traditions of such, but who also handily pass the acid test of taste and chops by performing with high intensity at low volume. So they did at a special lunchtime Isthmus Live Sessions last Friday. You can find SIMO all over Youtube, but check the Isthmus website to hear how less can truly be more.

Hardcore traditionalists of Chess-era Chicago Blues bring it on home to The Harmony. Joe Nosek and Oscar Wilson deliver a harmonica and vocal one-two punch. Expect a preview of songs from their soon-to-be-released CD Royal Mint (available June 30), their first on the Alligator Records label. Guest bassist Tom M. gets to team up with rock-solid drummer-man Mark Haines for an evening of movin’ plus groovin’. Downbeat at 9:45(ish).

The Maintainers carry on the Madison Blues tradition that stretches back to the days of The Church Key and The Club De Wash. Enjoy a panoramic view of the Madison skyline and a gentle gem of the Madison parks system. Music from 6 to 8 pm.
